Alice awoke that evening, slowly fluttering her eyes in order to focus her vision. She looked outside and the world was in complete darkness apart from some city lights that could be seen in the distance. She tried sitting up, but the pain in her ribs was too much and she felt herself falling backwards onto the bed. She tried once again, this time holding one arm around her waist and used the other to push herself up from the bed.
As she sat up, she looked around the room confused, trying to figure out where she was. As her eyes followed the decor around the room she started to feel light headed and got a headache that went through her entire brain, making the pain swell behind her eyes. She held her head with her eyes closed, screaming in agony. She watched as visions of the night before passed through her head, reliving her attack. She watched as a man stood over her in what she believed at the time to be her last moments. She tried shutting her eyes even tighter in order to block out the images and memories that rushed into her head, but they would not stop. She saw herself on the floor, lying with her head to the side, looking into the trees and seeing Oliver emerge from behind them. She watched as he transformed into a monster throwing away any shred of the man she had spent the night with prior to that. What was he? Who was he? What happened in that moment? Was it just shock that was making her recall her memories to be more horrifying than they actually were? No, that couldn't be it. She knew what she saw.
The pain lasted what felt like an eternity but eventually subsided. Alice forced her eyes open and tried getting out of bed. She moved her body and managed to get her feet to the floor. She pushed herself up while still holding her ribs. Her legs were numb and did not feel strong enough to keep her up straight, let alone walk and she fell back down to the bed.
As Alice sat helplessly on the bed, she heard the sound of footsteps coming from behind the door on the far side of the room. The door opened and it was Trevor, holding a tray with food and a glass of water.
“Good evening, Ms Grayson? How are you feeling?” Asked Trevor. “You slept the entire day and I was starting to worry.”
“Where am I?” Asked Alice frantically.
“You’re in Mr Page’s penthouse, Ms Grayson,” answered Trevor. “He brought you here last night after you were attacked so that I could take care of your wounds.”
“What happened last night? What was that thing that attacked me? I don’t understand what is going on. Where is Oliver?”
“Mr Page is downstairs, Ms Grayson. I chased him down to get some rest and to get something to eat for he spent the entire night by your side, watching over you.”
“Don’t let me go downstairs, pleaded Alice while grabbing Trevor’s sleeve, yanking him towards her. Oliver isn’t who he says he is. The creature that attacked me last night had superhuman abilities and Oliver killed it with his bare hands. I saw his fangs grow and watched as his fingers turn to claws. You have to get me out of here.”
“Ms Grayson,” said Trevor as he lifted her hand off of his arm. “I know you have a lot of questions, but I do not believe that it is my place to answer you, that obligation falls on Mr Page. I know that you are frightened and have absolutely no idea of what is going on. Any person in their right mind would be freaking out right now, but you have to trust me and most importantly, Mr Page. The love he has for you runs deep Ms Grayson. I know what you saw last night was extremely difficult to witness, but the man sitting downstairs only tried protecting you as he has been doing his entire life.”
“Entire life? What do you mean?”
“Come with me downstairs Ms Grayson, everything will soon be explained.”
