Oliver sat on the floor in front of the fireplace, watching the flames as they danced around when he heard footsteps coming down the stairs behind him. He jumped up and turned around to face Alice who was leaning on the railing of the stairs while still holding her ribs. 


Oliver rushed over to Alice and helped her down the last few steps until she was on solid ground, where she then walked over to the bar, pouring herself a drink and going to sit down by the fireplace. The two did not exchange words but Oliver knew what she wanted. Oliver followed suit and poured himself a drink and sat next to her as they looked into the fire. 


“Trevor convinced me to hear you out,” said Alice as she gulped at her drink rather than sip. 


“Is that the only reason you’re still here?”


“No, it isn’t. I know that whatever you are, you tried protecting me last night, and that I wouldn’t be here without you.”
