Chapter 25 : What Betrayal Feels Like

Vika's POV

"Where are you going?" my mother asked when I opened the front door.

"Uh, I was going to go to the castle," I said, pointing in that direction.

"Honey, you have a week off from work. Why would you want to go to the castle?" she asked, laughing lightly.

My mom closed the door, pulling it right out of my hand.

Umm… Okay… What the heck was that about?

"I can't go to the castle because I'm not working?" I asked, following my mom into the living room.

"It's been a long time since you've had a vacation. Why not enjoy it and just relax here?" she asked.

"I'm eighteen, mom. I can take care of myself," I said, crossing my arms. I stopped in the doorway.

My mother sat down and started knitting. I snorted and rolled my eyes.

I wanted to go see Asher. We never got to spend time together during the day. Now that I had time off, we could.

"Vika, I know why you were given a week off," my mom said, never looking up from her knitting.
