Chapter 12: Antirhodos

Lakis led Casandra by the hand along the seashore. They eventually came down from the boardwalk and decided to walk barefoot on the sand. Cassandra was struck by how white the sand was, and thought the sun shimmered on it beautifully. She had this rush of excitement inside her that she had not felt in a long time.

It was similar to the old, excited feeling she would get every Christmas season when she felt the anticipation building. She liked that feeling, however silly it may have seemed. It felt so young and free, and best of all, it felt happy. She decided not to overthink it and just enjoy it. She peered over at him, and noticed he seemed deep in thought.

“Hey,” she said, snapping him out of his trance, “whatcha thinking about?”

He grinned and shook his head, “Ah nothing. Do you know what nation you’re from?”
