Chapter 29: Ptah's Oasis

Lakis struggled behind her in the early morning sunlight. She felt a little bad making him get up right away, but she had this feeling of urgency and knew it would be for the best. She trudged through the hot desert sand followed the light of the sun which had a rainbow haze around it. She remembered the bird saying she must follow the rainbow and so they were!

“Casandra, we need to stop and drink some water,” gasped Lakis, astonished at how fast they were walking. She turned about to face him and realized how much she was beating him up. But, the sun would set in a few hours. What if the rainbow was gone?

“We can’t stop here, Lakis,” she said flatly. “It’s too hot out here. We are almost to the oasis of Ptah, and we can sit and rest there.”

He stopped and looked at her in disbelief and said, “How on earth do you know we are almost there?”
