Chapter 36: Where the Roots Run Deep

Lakis began pulling at the roots of the tree to reveal a small opening which led into a dark tunnel down to the earth. Casandra slid behind him, feeling the wet, muddy ground beneath her making obnoxious sloshing noises beneath her body. Nephthys followed her and perched on her shoulder. Her claws dug deeply into her shoulder, but she did not mind because she did not wish to lose her new friend the way she lost Anubis.

They made their way deeper and deeper, slipping more than walking, but at least it made it a little easier to make their descent downwards. Lakis kept moving faster and faster, and Casandra asked him to slow down, but soon he was out of earshot.
