Impromptu I

"What did Kyōko say?" I asked Tetsuya, who sat at the other side of the table in the dining room.

Still smirking, he answered, "She said no."

I knew what he was trying to do, but Sachiko didn't know him well enough to recognize it.

She lowered the chopsticks and said, "Seriously?"

"He's lying," I answered. "Get used to it."

Tetsuya laughed. "Lying is an ugly word. I just like to make jokes when the situation is appropriate. I wouldn't lie in a trial." He looked down. "Actually…"

"Just get to the point," I scowled.

"Okay, okay. She said yes. She wants to go out this Sunday."

My eyebrows raised. "Already? I guess she really wants to get it over with. Do you know where you're taking her?"

"I'm new to the city, how am I supposed to know places?"

"You're off to a bad start already. Did she choose, then?"

"I told her that'd be better, and she said that we could go explore the city."
