Surviving.

Out of all the zombies that were running to the trash bin, there was one that was moving very slowly, did something happen to its leg? Even when all the zombies had reached the trash bin, that female zombie was still behind moving slowly. Oh, shit! This f**king bizarre creature was gonna spoil his plan.

He just felt like telling the zombie, 'Move faster, do you want to spoil my plan?'. But doing that would just be like calling doom upon himself. He couldn't help but wonder why the zombie was moving this slow, he thought zombies were fast. He just came up with a simple conclusion, 'Maybe something happened to its legs'. There was nothing more he could do than to wait.

After about a minute, the zombie had already walked past him and reached the trash bin. Now was the time for him to move, he came out of his hiding and began walking slowly, he was trying his best not to make any sound. He got to the passage and began walking through it, and when he had gotten to the end of the passage, he felt something was wrong.

What was this feeling? He could feel it from the ground, a zombie was running towards him from the back, yeah, a f**king zombie wants to bite him. He quickly turned around, and the zombie had gotten very close to him. He couldn't even hold back the zombie, 'cause of its speed, the moment he gripped the zombie by its hand and its body touched him, he flew away.

The zombie fell to the ground also, and that's what saved him, if not, it would have bitten him. But that wouldn't last for long, the zombie got up from the ground and began running towards him. Hugo got up from the ground also, and as the zombie jumped to bite his neck, he held it and threw it away.

The zombies around the trash bin were already coming. Hugo sighted another metal rod on the ground that seemed to have spikes on its top. He picked it up immediately, and the zombie that he threw just now stood up from the ground and began running towards him once again...these things were troublesome. As the zombie got closer to him, he hit it with the iron rod, and the spikes on it were enough to bring it down.

But he wasn't done yet, more zombies were running towards him. The first one reached where he was standing and tried to jump on him so he could bite him, but Hugo used the rod to hit it. The second came, and he hit it with the rod also. And that's what he did to the remaining three zombies. All of them were lying on the ground with blood gushing out of their heads.

Then he noticed that female zombie sauntering towards him, she was so slow, why was her own different? The sounds of the iron rod had already attracted more zombies, and they were on their way. Standing there for some seconds staring at the zombie as she walked towards him, he noticed the zombies in her back running towards him.

"Holy shit!". Hugo muttered to himself as he took to his heels.

The zombies had already sighted him, so they chased after him. Still in motion, Hugo glanced back to see the zombies chasing after him, but there was a distance between him and them.

"Not again". He muttered to himself.

The so-called system that was supposed to guide him had suddenly disappeared, she didn't even speak to him throughout his fight with those zombies...wasn't she supposed to guide him and help him out? Or must he have to call out on her before she'll speak to him? He needed her guidance right now 'cause he was just running not knowing if there were any incoming zombies in front.

He glanced back, those zombies were still chasing after him. Since the system doesn't want to speak, then he'll call out on her,

"System".

[ Yes, host]

"So, you've been there all this while, why didn't you notify me when a zombie was coming in my back? You didn't even speak to me when I was fighting those zombies". Hugo uttered.

[ I know you could handle them, host, and I know that you would feel that a zombie was coming in your back, that's why I didn't notify you]

'What! Like seriously?'. Hugo uttered to himself in his thought.

But it's better to keep that aside and focus on the main issue. He inquired of the system,

"Are there any zombies in front?".

[ No, it's free]

"I've got to take cover from these zombies that are chasing me".

He's passed several junctions, so now, he decided that he was gonna corner the next one he'll set eyes on. The next junction was right in front of him, and the moment he reached it, he cornered the left street. Immediately, he found cover and hid there. The zombies cornered the street also, but they didn't see the person they were chasing anymore. They were confused, they kept on glancing left and right, front and back.

Hugo just stayed at his hiding glancing at them, what he needed now was for them to leave. If they don't leave, he wouldn't be able to get out of this place. After some minutes, the zombies started walking away one by one until he couldn't see a single one of them anymore. He came out of his hiding and called out on the system,

"System, is this area free of zombies?".

[ Not yet, some of the zombies that left here are still lurking about, but you wouldn't have much problem 'cause the road you are about to pass now is currently free of them, but there are many in front. Your journey continues]

Hugo breathed in and out, and he continued journeying with the system's guidance.

*******

Hugo had covered some kilometers now, he had been trekking for a long time. Nighttime had passed, dawn had arrived, and he was still trekking. While trekking, he saw lots of dead bodies on the floor, both dead bodies of zombies and normal humans. He saw dead bodies of soldiers, students, and even a baby. Most of the dead bodies were smelling 'cause they've been there for a long time.

With the system's guidance, he's covered kilometers, but it wasn't just free sauntering. He came across zombies, but he didn't need to fight or run from any of them 'cause he didn't allow them notice him. Right now, he was really tired and he was feeling sleepy though it was dawn, and foremost, he was hungry. He didn't know what happened, but the grocery stores he's been seeing since when he was trekking were damaged.

They were damaged to the brim, like, who did this? Or did the apocalypse damage buildings? The grocery store edifices were compressed to the brim, no one could enter them. So, as a result of this, Hugo couldn't eat anything, his stomach just kept on rumbling.

Hugo just had the feeling that the destruction of those grocery stores was the doings of someone, or let me say...people. Like, how could the grocery stores be destroyed while bungalows were intact? He hadn't sighted a single bungalow that was destroyed, so why the grocery stores? Why?

The 'Lotus sage academy' wasn't near, that's for sure. Hugo had covered kilometers, but he hadn't still reached it, and he wasn't gonna reach it soon with just trekking. This city was big, so some places had distances among themselves. It was close to noon, and right now, Hugo was feeling really sleepy, he needed to rest his head somewhere, he's been trekking for a long time.

He can't just sleep outside here, he's got to find a good cover where he'll be able to sleep comfortably without the zombies noticing him. He began glancing around, but he didn't find suitable ones, the ones he saw didn't have barricades. This was daylight not nighttime, so if he dare sleep at the wrong place, he'll get bitten. The zombies would easily notice him 'cause everywhere was bright.

He was thinking of what to do when he heard the system's voice,

[ Your agility is reducing, your body is getting weak, you need to sleep]

"Yeah, you've noticed that, but I don't know where to sleep. Sleeping outside here would be very dangerous".

[ You correct, host, sleeping outside here is just like calling doom upon yourself. So the best option is to find your way to one of the apartments of any building and sleep there]

Hugo was from ancient times, so he wasn't that familiar with this word, 'Apartment'. But he understood that the system was telling him to sleep in one of the houses of any building...and he didn't think that was a good idea.
