Now, it's about time for Hugo to learn to use the weapon he chose, that's sword. Some students in the A class were already learning to use their weapons, and that included Ryder and Vera. Captain Wayne said to, Hugo,
"But definitely, we wouldn't be using real swords to train, unless someone wants to get slashed, and I'll be the one to slash you".
Hugo just nodded his head, he wasn't expecting them to use real swords. Even if Captain Wayne's thinking wasn't the same as his and he suggested they use real swords, he would have opposed it. Captain Wayne said to him once again,
"Wait here let me go get what we'll use in training".
After making that statement, he sauntered away. Hugo was really glad that he's learned something new today, he was sure that his stats would have added some points again. He was even tempted to call on his system and check his stats, but he just held himself, he'll do it later.
According to Captain Wayne, not all the students he trained he taught how to jump from high places, so he was among his lucky students. You know, Hugo was privileged to be among his lucky students. He glanced around the compound, and the normal stuff was happening, the compound was bustling with students training.
Bang! Bang!
He was even hearing sounds of gunshots, and he glanced in the direction where the sounds were coming from, some students were learning how to make use of guns. Yeah, he's seen this before, and it's caught his attention once again. They weren't learning on their own, they were being taught by adults.
There were woods in front, and red spots were on the woods, their bullets were meant to be penetrating those red spots. They were being trained how to aim well, target, and fire. All the S and F class students have passed through this stage, they were pro at using guns. Once again, Hugo wondered when his gun training would start.
Most likely, when he had learned how to use his weapon. After some minutes more, Hugo sighted Captain Wayne coming towards him with two wooden swords in his hand, that's what they'll use for the training. Hugo loved what he was seeing, definitely, these were the work of the carpenters.
Captain Wayne got to where he was standing and uttered to him,
"Look at these, wooden swords, these are what we'll use in training".
"Yeah, already discerned that". Hugo stated, then he inquired, "These are the work of the carpenters, right?".
"Yeah, everyone with skill is of great help to this academy. They are training and creating things, you know, it isn't easy".
Hugo just nodded his head. The sounds of gunshots were still echoing around the compound, and due to that, Captain Wayne uttered to Hugo once again,
"You hear that? You see that?".
"Yeah, they are learning how to make use of guns". Hugo responded, by now, he had known that they were called 'guns'.
"You'll get to that level soon, every student in this academy must learn how to make use of guns. But as for now, you have to learn how to use your weapon, you have to learn sword fighting".
He handed one of the wooden swords over to, Hugo, then he uttered once again,
"Remember, before this day, I'd already informed you that I wouldn't be using real swords to train you how to swordfight".
"Yeah, I remember clearly, at the weapon store".
"Good. Now, before we begin training, there are some basic things you need to know about sword fighting. It's just like martial arts, there are things to know about martial arts, and you've already known most of them. Hold your sword, let me see if you're even good at holding a sword when it's time for a battle".
Hugo had seen how the knights hold their swords in the Ivairis kingdom, in his previous life. He's seen how his dad holds his sword whenever he wants to train and other stuff like that. So he tried his best to hold it that same way, but even with the knowledge he had, he still didn't hold it well.
"Hmm, you tried, but that's not how to hold a sword". Captain Wayne voiced out.
He walked to where Hugo was standing and positioned the wooden sword well in his hands, then he positioned his hands well. Then he said,
"Now, that's how to hold a sword. Remember, the way you hold your sword is very important, that's what will determine if you'll be able to block your opponent's attack. But since we're living in an apocalyptic world right now, that principle wouldn't be of many benefits since you'll be slashing more of zombies. But it's still needed, who knows".
Hugo nodded, now, he's learned one thing, how to hold a sword properly. Captain Wayne continued speaking,
"Apart from that, there are still other things you need to know about sword fighting. It's a little similar to martial arts, if you choose to attack first, you have to attack with caution. Attack in a way that wouldn't leave opening for your opponent to slash you,
The second is defense, even when your opponent attack swiftly, you need to be able to block his sword attack with your sword. And if he isn't a good swordsman, and his attack created an opening for you, make use of it. The third is dodging, according to what I know, you're good at dodging already, you've learned that from what I've taught you and your personal training,
Apart from blocking your opponent's sword attack, you need to learn how to dodge also. As I've said, these teachings wouldn't be of many benefits to you right now 'cause we're living in an apocalyptic world, you'll slash more of zombies. But they are the principles of sword fighting, and you've got to know them".
And so the teachings went on, Captain Wayne kept on telling Hugo the principles of sword fighting, his head was getting filled with knowledge. He told him the different types of attacks, and how to dodge or block those attacks when they are being thrown at you. And apart from that, he told him never to look down on opponents, never underestimate your opponents.
And the teachings kept on going and going, they wasted minutes on teaching. And this was Captain Wayne's last utterance after he was done filling Hugo's head with knowledge about sword fighting.
"And that's it, you get them all?".
"Yeah, every single one of them". Hugo uttered.
"Now, it's about time for you to put into practice what you've learned. The oral training is done, it's time for us to move to the real training. Hugo, attack me".
Wow, it's happening. Hugo closed his eyes, breathed in and out, opened his eyes, and it was just like he's gotten a certain kind of energy from the heavens. He held his wooden sword well, positioned his body in a way. It's part of what the captain taught him, how swordsmen do position their bodies in different kinds.
He then glanced at Captain Wayne, repositioned his sword, and charged. As he was running towards, Captain Wayne, Captain Wayne positioned his body in a way, and it made Hugo confused. He didn't know if he planned on dodging his attack or blocking it. Well, whatever he planned on doing, Hugo would try his best to give him a tough time.
He got to where Captain Wayne was standing, and he didn't do what was expected. The normal thing was to swing his wooden sword to give Captain Wayne a fake slash, but he didn't do that. Instead, he forwarded his sword swiftly to penetrate Captain Wayne's stomach, it's part of what he was taught.
But Captain Wayne moved his body as the sword missed target, and at that moment, an opening had been made, Captain Wayne could easily make use of this opportunity to slash or stab, Hugo, but he didn't. Hugo had been given a lot of information about sword fighting, but he wasn't putting them into practice, he was still a beginner at using his weapon.
The moment Hugo noticed that Captain Wayne had dodged his sword attack, he quickly raised the sword and came with a slash this time. He aimed for his chest, if it were to be a real sword, and Captain Wayne was too slow in dodging the attack, the sword would slash his chest badly.
But Captain Wayne was good enough, he was fast enough. So quickly, he moved to the right as the sword swung past. At this moment, another opening had been created, he could easily slash or stab, Hugo, but he didn't...he was taking it easy on him.
