Hugo's eyes widened a little, he wasn't wrong after all. He was still glancing at Captain Wayne, and his facial expression screamed, 'I want explanation'. Captain Wayne sighed once again, then he began speaking,
"You know, injustice is a normal thing, it's been going on for years. You might have experienced injustice, I have experienced injustice, the world is not fair. Before the breakout of the apocalypse, some people had been wishing for such a thing to happen, they wanted the world to experience chaos,
People that the world hasn't been fair to, people that had experienced injustice, people whose hearts were filled with anger. They had no idea that a zombie apocalypse was gonna break out, but they had been wishing for any sort of chaos to take place. The zombie apocalypse broke out, and people were terrified, why did such a thing happen?
But people like them were happy, the zombie apocalypse brought joy to their hearts, the chaos they had been wishing for has finally happened. Due to the anger in their hearts, they made use of the opportunity to do evil things".
Captain Wayne stopped speaking, he had been saying these things without glancing at, Hugo, but Hugo had been glancing at him. He finally focused his gaze on, Hugo, and continued speaking,
"You are from this city, I am from this city, everyone in this academy is from this city, the Glittering City. As you most likely know, not everyone in this city is in safe zone, this academy is a safe zone. Just like that guy you told me about, there are people outside this academy surviving on their own. There are different reasons why they aren't in this academy,
To mention some, they aren't aware that this academy exists. Secondly, they are afraid to journey to this academy, they don't want to get bitten by zombies, and so on. So they are out there surviving on their own. To survive, they'll have to take the risk to go out of their houses, visit grocery stores, and take foodstuff,
Now, those people that felt like they've experienced enough injustice, those people that had been praying for chaos to take over the world, they want the surviving humans to suffer. They want them to feel pain, since they didn't get bitten by zombies, maybe they should die of hunger,
So they go around breaking down grocery stores, that's after they had taken enough foodstuff for themselves. Apart from breaking, they burn some also, you can testify to that. So unfortunately for you, they break the one closest to your street which you've been taking food from to survive all this while, you're doomed,
Going too far just to get foodstuff would almost be impossible 'cause there are zombies everywhere. And not like they are skilled to defend themselves. That's why you saw grocery stores broken down and one on fire while you were heading to this academy".
Anger was evident on Hugo's face due to Captain Wayne's explanation, so those f**kers go around breaking down grocery stores just 'cause of the anger in their hearts? Just 'cause they've experienced injustice? Just 'cause they felt like the world was unfair? So they want to make life hard for people in this turbulent time? Innocent people?
Was it the whole citizens of Glittering City that made life hard for them? To Hugo, what they were doing was callous, it was unfair, if possible, they deserve to pay for what they were doing. Hugo said to Captain Wayne,
"What they are doing is unfair".
"Yeah, really unfair, it's a callous act". Captain Wayne voiced out.
"Yeah, they experienced injustice before the breakout of the apocalypse, life was unfair to them, but they shouldn't punish the innocent for it. But how are they bringing down grocery stores with zombies around? They'll get bitten".
"They use caterpillars, easy and straight destruction. All the zombies can do is surround the caterpillars, they wouldn't be able to get to the people controlling them. They can easily crush the zombies while driving the caterpillar to another spot". Captain Wayne explained.
Hugo was confused at this moment, he doesn't know what a caterpillar was, he was from ancient times. He's learned a lot of things since his stay in this world, he's known a lot of things. But this was the first time he was hearing the word, 'Caterpillar'. He wanted to know what it was, but he didn't know how he'll do it.
If he tells Captain Wayne that he doesn't know what a caterpillar was, then he'll be very surprised...better put, confused. Like, you've been in this world for eighteen years, but you don't know what a caterpillar is? He didn't want that, so he'll have to find out in another way. He inquired of Captain Wayne,
"So what type of caterpillar do they use?".
There was a type of confused expression on Captain Wayne's face, what does he mean, 'What type of caterpillar do they use?'. Was there another type of caterpillar apart...oh! maybe he was thinking of the caterpillars with life in them. But if that was his thinking, then he was dumb...that was Captain Wayne's thinking.
"What type of caterpillar do you think I'm talking of? Are you thinking the ones with life in them?". Captain Wayne inquired of Hugo.
"Ummm...."
Hugo was still thinking of what to say when Captain Wayne voiced out once again,
"I'm talking of caterpillars that are used in breaking down structures. They are tall, made of metal, must be controlled by someone, and there's something on them that does the job of breaking down buildings. I didn't think I'll have to tell you this".
"Ohh! I fully understand now". Hugo voiced out, at least, he had gotten a clue of what caterpillars looked like.
Captain Wayne glanced at him somehow once again after he made that statement, he didn't believe he had to explain to Hugo the type of caterpillar they were using to bring down grocery stores. Definitely, it can't be the ones that had life in them? Hugo uttered to him once again,
"What of the grocery stores where the S class students in this academy go to get foodstuff? Hope they haven't gotten to those places?".
"No, they haven't noticed them, they are hidden. Though they are breaking down grocery stores, there are still lots of grocery stores they haven't broken down. But some boulevards are in big trouble 'cause lots of grocery stores there have been brought down or burnt".
Hugo sighed, that annoyed expression appeared back on his face, those people breaking down grocery stores deserve to pay. Lots of people would have suffered from what they were doing. He suffered from it also when he was journeying to this academy. He was hungry, he came across grocery stores, but they were all damaged.
He glanced at Captain Wayne and voiced out once again,
"Are you angry at what they are doing?".
"Is that a question for me?". Captain Wayne uttered throwing back a question.
"Yeah".
"That shouldn't be a question for me 'cause I don't have a dark heart. I have experienced lots of injustice as a soldier, but I can never do what they are doing, I can never have like their thinking. I have a reason for everything I do, a valid reason".
"So, what do you think they deserve? What would you do if you come across any of them?". Hugo inquired once again.
Captain Wayne laughed a little, then he said, "That person would suffer in my hands, after forcefully taking him, I'll make him feel what it feels like to be hungry. If he dares talk nonsense, he'll receive some beatings".
To Hugo, that wasn't enough, what those people were doing was too callous, they deserve more than that. His heart had darkened towards them. Captain Wayne noticed the expression on his face and said,
"Wow! that's a hardened facial expression. OK, let me ask you the same question, if you come across any of them, what would you do? I've told you mine".
"It matters what position I catch them in, if I catch one of them breaking down a grocery store, I'll first torture him, then just as you, I'll make him feel hunger, severe one, then I'll ask him what kind of injustice he faced that made him start doing such callous things,
But if I catch one just by discerning that he's one of them due to some signs. I'll make him feel severe hunger, then I'll ask him the same question, 'What injustices did you face that led you into doing such callous things?".
Captain Wayne held Hugo on his right shoulder and said, "Your heart has darkened towards them, boy".
