Failed attempts.(2)

Hugo glanced at Captain Wayne, and Captain Wayne gave him a type of look before uttering,

"The bullets have finished".

"Oh!". Hugo voiced out.

"You kept on shooting and shooting, and even with all of that, none of the red spots was penetrated".

"Yeah, I was trying my best to see if I could penetrate one of them. Now that the bullets have finished, what are we going to do?".

"I've got extra bullets in my pocket". Captain Wayne said.

"Seriously?".

"Yeah".

"Wow! I had no idea".

He brought out one of the bullets from his pocket, and as he was about to hand it over to, Hugo, he suddenly stopped and voiced out,

"Do you know how to insert a bullet into a gun?".

"No idea, I think I'll have to be taught that too".

Captain Wayne began teaching Hugo how to put a bullet into a gun and the other way round. It wasn't hard stuff to learn, and within some minutes, Hugo had learned how to put and remove a bullet from a gun. He was able to learn it quickly 'cause Captain Wayne's teaching wasn't by mouth, he taught him practically.

Now that he's learned this, Captain Wayne told him something that was of utmost importance.

"It isn't only about learning to put a bullet into a gun, you have to learn to do it fast. Being slow kills, a zombie or zombies are running towards you, and you're there sluggishly inserting a bullet into your gun, you'll get bitten. Or you are in a gunfight, and you're so slow at putting a new bullet into your gun, you'll most likely get shot. That's just it".

Hugo nodded his head, he understood that clearly. He took out the bullet from the gun, then put it back into it, but this time, he did it swiftly. He repeated the same thing twice, and he's learned already, it's better he starts learning these minor things now. Captain Wayne then said to him again,

"You'll have to continue trying to shoot one of the red spots, but this time, don't shoot like you're in the middle of a gunfight. Take it easy and gently, one by one, don't waste that bullet".

Remembering the system's quest made him want to learn this gun shooting as fast as possible, he can't miss out on the Exp. He held the gun well, focused his gaze on one of the red spots on the left-hand wood, aimed, and fired. As usual, the bullet missed the red spot he aimed for, but it penetrated the wood.

Captain Wayne patted him on his shoulder, not like he was consoling him or something, with that pat, he was telling him, 'Keep going, don't worry'. Hugo repeated the same thing, positioned the pistol well, aimed, and fired, but it was a miss once again. He repeated the same thing three more times, and it was still a miss.

'Would I be able to accomplish this quest?'. Hugo thought to himself, it was of utmost importance to him.

Captain Wayne positioned his pistol like he wanted to shoot one of the red spots on the right-hand wood, and that's what he wanted to do. But before he'll do that, he said to, Hugo,

"As known, 'cause you can't shoot one of the red spots now doesn't mean you wouldn't learn how to aim well and fire in the future, you'll just have to keep trying".

Yeah, Hugo knew that, at least, it took him days to average sword fighting and martial arts, but in this gun shooting, the case was different. The system's quest was involved, and he wanted to accomplish it, he needed the Exp...that was something Captain Wayne didn't know.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Gunshots resounded around the compound, Captain Wayne was shooting the red spots on the right-hand wood, and the bullets were penetrating all. Apart from him, other students on the compound were learning how to make use of guns, so the gunshots weren't coming from him only.

Captain Wayne exhausted the bullets in his gun while shooting the red spots on the right-hand wood, and he didn't waste time putting a new bullet into it, but he didn't resume with the shooting...he felt like he had shot enough. Hugo made some more attempts, but they were all failed attempts, he was disappointed...two days to accomplish the quest.

Right now, Captain Wayne and Hugo had decided that they were done with today's training, they'll resume tomorrow. Currently, they were resting their backs on the two wood with red spots on them, but they weren't resting with their body's full force, if they did, the wood would fall.

And while they were resting their backs on the wood, Captain Wayne began uttering to, Hugo, he was about to ask him something he hadn't asked since four days of their training...four days after the F class students left to go get Monk Talon's scroll.

"A lot has happened since the F class students left to go get Monk Talon's scroll, activities are still taking place. A fight even resulted between two students 'cause of their absence from this academy. It's been eight days since they left, but nothing has been heard from them. Many people had already taken it like they are dead, while some are still holding on to the hope that they are still alive...mostly F class students,

Many had even stopped praying, almost everyone. I have even lost hope that they'll make it back to this academy, I've already taken it like they've been bitten by zombies, I don't want to keep holding to false hope. What's your take on this? Do you think they are still alive or dead?".

Hugo went straight to the point, he voiced out what he felt, "They are dead".

After he made that utterance, Captain Wayne's facial expression screamed, 'Why do you say so?'. He understood, so he continued speaking,

"Before the passing of six days, I already had the feeling that they were dead, they've been bitten by zombies. And somehow, I'm just so sure of what I'm feeling. I never wished them dead, I'm just saying the fact, what I feel".

Captain Wayne nodded his head and uttered, "I understand what you're saying", Then he sighed, "So it's gonna be the same wasted effort, another group of young soldiers' lives wasted".

"Are you still distressed?". Hugo inquired of Captain Wayne.

"Not anymore, what am I still worrying about? The probability that they are dead is high. I'm just sad that lives would be wasted again, and we'll be in the dark once again". Captain Wayne responded.

The both of them kept silent for a while, then Captain Wayne inquired of Hugo once again. This was a question he hadn't asked Hugo since the last time they talked about it.

"Do you still think about those people going around breaking down grocery stores?".

The moment Captain Wayne asked that question, Hugo's facial expression turned to that of an annoyed one, then he retorted,

"Yeah, I still think about them, the evil things they are doing".

"Wow! Look at how your facial expression changed the moment I asked that question".

"It has to change, I'm annoyed at what they are doing, it's very wrong".

"As I've said before, I know you'll do more than what you told me if you catch one of them". Captain Wayne stated.

Hugo just glanced at him without saying anything, that annoyed expression still plastered to his face.

*******

The both of them discussed to their satisfaction, it was already getting close to complete evening. Hugo assisted Captain Wayne in carrying the wood off the compound, and Hugo saw where they were being kept. After keeping the wood, Hugo handed his gun over to Captain Wayne.

The both of them parted ways as Captain Wayne began heading to the weapons store. But before that happened, Captain Wayne reminded Hugo that their gun training was gonna resume tomorrow. He even uttered this statement to him again, 'The failed attempts would have to stop as soon as possible'.

He didn't say that to pressure him, he said that so he'll put in more effort to learn to make use of pistols. Evening reached, and everyone ate dinner, as usual, it was a delicious meal. And right now, Hugo was sitting on his bed beneath and thinking. He was thinking of how he'll learn to make use of a pistol within two days...how he'll learn to aim well and fire.

Apart from his busy thought, he was also confused, two things at the same time. You already know what he was thinking about, but what was making him confused?
