Chapter 26: Fated

Adelaide stood, getting herself ready for whatever was to come. Damon could hear her blood coursing through her veins as she pushed her heels into the pebbles. The figure didn’t move—it was medium height and slim, but because of the shadows of the trees, and how far back the being was, he couldn’t make out its face.

Damon’s hands tensed and he flexed them, keeping them close to his side so he could easily reach for his dagger if he needed. Unexpectedly, the figure took a step forward, causing both Adelaide and Damon to lightly jump.

Adelaide raised her hands up in the air, showing it her open palms. “Stop right there, whoever you are. I’m a siren and I can do much more damage than you could ever imagine.”

The figure didn’t listen and instead, took another step forward.

“I’m warning you,” Adelaide called out. “Stop!”
