Chapter 25: Cloaked Ambitions

As they manoeuvred down the uncut route, Damon realized that if he had learned anything in his time with Adelaide, it was that although the path looks clear cut and straightforward on the map, it is rarely so in real life.

The tree branches intertwined with one another, generating an eery vibe that only exaggerated the restlessness picking away at his subconscious. In training with his father, one of the first lessons he learned was to always trust his instincts, and this one was hitting him face on. Or maybe that was the pain from his wound. He wasn’t sure.

Adelaide kept a tolerant expression for most of the hike, never letting it slip how tired or exhausted she truly was. Other than the odd rest stop, which only lasted for a few minutes at a time, they travelled through most of the night into the next morning, only breaking while looking for a convoluted place to camp securely.
