That’s when it clicked. The man who said he knew Adelaide…of course he did. And judging on how they were almost found out—he understood her more than he thought. 


“Your father?” Damon asked, utterly dumbfounded. “Why is he helping them look for you?” 


Adelaide inhaled and then sat down next to Damon. 


“Because he’s—he’s Kal’s second in command.” 


Damon couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His body shook as his blood began to boil even though she didn’t seem phased in the slightest by his betrayal. 


“Does he know?” Damon asked, hoping that his assessment of her father’s character was entirely wrong. 


“Oh, he knows,” Adelaide replied. “How could he not? With all that Kal stands for…it’d be impossible for him not to.”
