Chapter 23: Family Affairs

As morning approached, the first of the sun’s rays crept into the cave, forcing their way into Damon’s sight. He stretched as he woke, and then doubled over in distress.

“F*ck,” he cursed, clutching his side.

“Careful,” Adelaide said, her voice coming in from behind him. “You’ll pull open the wound and restart the bleeding.”

Damon took sharp breaths to slow down the pain shooting around in his body. His insides were searing, and he was more woozy than he had been the night before. Nothing he could remember had ever impacted him like this.

“Okay,” she suddenly spoke. “I think I have all of our stuff ready to go. Do you think you can stand?”
