Kal’s broken figure laid limp in Damon’s jaw as the sound of the final crack resonated through the mountain. He moved to the edge and swung Kal’s body over the edge, watching it fall to the forest below. And as he promised, when Damon turned around, he saw the song being lifted, and members of the Royal Shift and Moonlight pack regaining their mobility. 


But celebration was far from over. Damon heart stopped at the moment everyone else’s seemed to. For a while, everyone looked at one another, taking in what had occurred. Kal was gone. It was done and he had succeeded. Only that wasn’t how the Ascenders saw it.


“NO!” one shouted, as they started to run in Damon’s direction. However, they were quickly stopped by another Ascender who grabbed their arm and spun them around, rapidly snapping their neck.
