Chapter 26: Strengthening Bonds

A little while later, their rooms paid for, Caine flung himself upon his mattress. “Ah,” he sighed as its body slowly submerged into its downy depths.

Vix stood just beside the bed in Caine’s room. He had been right, the Robin Nest was far more luxurious than the Wench’s Tavern.

The room was decorated with dark oak furniture, lacquered and polished until they gleamed. In the corner stood a monstrous claw-footed dresser. Vix could have stored all the clothes she had ever owned within it five times and still have room left over.

The bed was immaculately made, or had been before Caine had collapsed on it, and a spotless full-length mirror hung upon the wall.

Vix’s room had been very similar. She had looked around it a few minutes before, her mouth slightly agape all the while. She had never seen such a comfortable place.

It made her slightly nervous. She was not meant for places like this. It felt like the whole room would just shatter if she so much as touched it.
