I got a little over excited and ended up fixing Roman in one go, so of course a nosebleed and a bit of red splotches in the whites of my eyes were unavoidable.

Gus just looked at me hard, brow furrowed with displeasure. I'd already told him it was an accident, that I hadn't done this since I'd treated Roman in the temple, but he still kept looking at me like a dog that had dragged in mud for the fifth year running.

"Am I the only one that grew up?" he said.

"I've been married once, had four children, died, and traveled to another world. What have you done?"

Roman, who had been getting his boots on next to the door, jerked around. "Pardon? Died?"

Gus rose to the challenge with much puffing of chest and crossing of arms.

"I've tamed a dragon, killed a bunch of bad guys, and learned how to make lightning balls in my hands. Can you do that?"

"Why would I want to do that? And how does that prove your maturity?"
