Chapter 156

I woke up to Gus shaking me, his scowl deeper than ever and even sharper on his adult face. I missed his baby chub.

"Do you have any idea how you look right now? Of course you don't, you irresponsible..." he clacked his teeth down.

I blinked and looked over his shoulder to see another man, shaggy, dark, but happy as he leaned on the bed to greet his wife, who had sat up and was smiling at him.

"I'm so glad..." he was muttering tearfully. "I'm so glad."

"I don't even hurt anymore," said the girl. "And the bleeding stop!"

"Are you hungry?"

"Yes! At last!"

He chuckled wetly and pulled himself close to embrace her, his thick arms nearly engulfing his little wife whole.

Gus clicked his fingers in front of my face.

"Yes yes, you've done good, I'm still pissed at you. Did you not take me seriously when I said I'd follow you if you died?"

I flapped his hand out of my face. "I wasn't going to die. Let's go." I'd done enough intruding on this emotional scene.
