Chapter Ten | Avalon

“Do you date a lot?” Jesse asks between bites. I have to think over the question for a moment because I’m not quite sure of my answer. Currently, I’m sat at the Bourbon and Branch Bar with lucky bachelor number three.

Before this, I was in a committed relationship for over four years, but now, I’ve been on three dates in the past two weeks. I offer a shrug.

“Not until recently.”

“What changed?” he quizzes. During my date with Max, we only talked about him. Tonight, the spotlight has been completely on me.

“I got my heartbroken, so I figured, I might as well have fun while I’m young.”

“Awh, I see. That tends to be the narrative,” Jesse comments, offering a sympathetic smile. I chuckle and shake my head.

“Trust me, it was definitely for the best. Besides, he hated most of my hobbies.”

The man across from me lets out a laugh, throwing his head back as his eyes crinkle. I have to say this has been the best date so far, although I don’t know too much about Jesse yet.
