Chapter Eleven | Alexander

My foot taps along to the rap song sounding from the speakers. Despite not growing up around this kind of music, I find myself evolving with the times. It’s no Frank Sinatra album, though.

It’s Saturday night, and the bar is more crowded than normal. I tend to customers almost every second, never getting a moment to breathe. I bend over to grab a bottle of Jack from behind the counter, and when I come back up, my eyes lock with Avalon’s.

My gaze shifts from her to the man beside her. Great… Another date.

I pour the glass of alcohol for a man sitting three bar stools over, and then make my way toward the familiar girl. Her hair is curled tonight, bouncing to a halt just below her shoulders. I suck in a breath and smile.

“Back again,” I say, directing my words to both of them. Avalon matches my smile, her dimples capturing my attention instantly. The way her eyes shine reminds me of the stars in the sky when it’s really early in the morning.
