Chapter Fourteen | Alexander

I hand the drink to our last customer, before clocking out. I search for Avalon among the fleeting crowd, but all I catch is a glimpse of her retreating figure. My eyebrows furrow, and I hurry to catch the girl before she leaves.

“Ava,” I call out, capturing her attention at just the right moment. She turns to face me, an unfamiliar expression lining her features. “You’re leaving already?”

“I just figured you were busy…”

“I’m done now,” I assure her. Avalon studies me for a moment, before offering a hesitant smile. I can see the wheels turning in that pretty head of hers. Without a second thought, I grab the woman’s hand and lead her behind me to the fire escape at the back of the building.

“Where are you taking me?”

“It’s a surprise.”

Once we’re outside, I gesture toward the stares. Avalon cocks her head to view them.

“Ladies first,” I elaborate.

“You want me to climb up there?” she quizzes. I keep a smile on my lips and nod.
