Chapter Twenty-Nine | Avalon

The TV roars in the background as I slurp my chicken noodle soup. So much for a Friday night out. Alexander is working again, and I wasn’t really in the bar mood. So, sitcoms and soup it is.

“Alright honey. I have another date tonight…” Mom says, entering from the hallway. I glance over, noticing her gorgeous dress and heels. My eyebrow raises immediately.

“Wow… You look amazing! Same guy as last time?”

Mom tries to hide her bashful smile.

“Yes… Tonight‘s our second date. Do you really think I look okay?”

“Okay would be an understatement Mom. This guy must be pretty special,” I reply instantly, hoping to clear any doubt from her mind. Mom’s grin grows, and she leans over to hug me.

“Okay, I left a frozen dinner in the freezer if you get hungry. I love you!”

She rushes out the door, and suddenly, I’m all alone. I turn up the TV and set the empty soup bowl down.
