Chapter Twenty-Eight | Avalon

The ring of the doorbell sends excitement through my body, and I rush to greet the woman. When my eyes meet the comforting pair of familiar ones, I pull Melissa into a warm hug.

“You do not know how much I needed this girl’s night,” I elaborate, gesturing inside the house.

“Well, you and I both. I feel like we haven’t really talked since your first day back to work,” Melissa agrees, wearing a sweet smile. I grab the bottle of wine and two glasses from the kitchen, heading for the sofa with Melissa right behind me. We have a lot of catching up to do.

Once we’re both comfortable, she eyes me expectantly.

“So… What’s the news on your mysterious bartender?”

I fight the blush that threatens to turn my cheeks crimson.

“We’ve been seeing each other a lot lately, and I think it’s getting serious,” I confess, holding in an excited shriek when a massive smile forms on Melissa's lips. She reaches out her hand and places it on my knee.

“Tell me everything!”
