Jonah wanted to be respectful. He wanted to keep his eyes down or bow or something. Anything to not look like a complete idiot. Instead he stood dumbfounded staring at Charon. He was pretty sure his mouth was gaping open too, but all he could do was stare.
Jonah found himself surprised to see how tall Charon was and strikingly handsome. Most of the information he had read on Greek lore had depicted Charon as an ugly man with rags for clothes and a crooked nose. There was nothing raggedy about this man.
“Well, this certainly is a change of pace. It’s been a long time since a mortal tried to barder passage from me. What can I do for you two, gentlemen?” Charon asked in a soothing voice. He sounded smooth, like a voice meant to sing jazz. Jonah suddenly found his throat was dry and he was at a loss for words. Nick calmly elbowed him, knocking him back into their current situation.
