The sun was starting to rise and it was leaking light into the small dorm where two humans and two demons lay in waiting. Jonah was resting with his head on Mazakin’s lap, watching the sunlight highlight the different shades of red through her hair. Nick was pushed up against the corner of the wall on his bed. His eyes were closed but Jonah knew he wasn’t really asleep. Ahpunch had stood, leaning against the closet wall all night, as immovable as a statue. At multiple times in the night Jonah found himself more than a little freaked out by the outline of Ahpunch's dark, red figure.
Jonah’s eyes were stinging with the need for sleep and he could feel a raw emptiness in his throat. It wanted breakfast but he didn’t dare move. The knot in his stomach and fear of Joel’s choice kept him frozen in place along with the others. He honestly wasn’t sure what he wanted Joel to say.
