Chapter 35: Tutor Time

Instead of walking over to Chase’s house, Mom dropped me off down the street. The last few days hadn’t been as bad. She had seen a change, so she did anything I asked of her recently. Walking up to his house, I felt it loom over me. I knew anything could happen here. Before I even knocked on the door, he opened it.

“Hey, come in,” he said. I slip through the open door and shut it behind me. I wasn’t sure how to act. We had not yet made up, but there was so much progress the last time I saw him. Maybe it was all in my head. I could have been getting set up for another prank for all I knew.

“How much work were you able to complete last night?” I asked, setting my bag down at the kitchen table. He had a few pages out already. Truthfully, I was hoping for more.

“Maybe three or four more of the math, and I started on the first English one, but that’s about it,” he said, sliding the completed pages over to me.
