Chapter 54: Karma

"Honestly, I can't even take advantage of it," I said to Chase. He was trying to give me an opportunity to be a bad girl, and I knew it. Of course, he was just messing with me, but he did have a point.

"Wait, why not?" he asked, genuinely confused.

"I already get good grades. I have straight A's. I also have four teachers offering to write recommendations for me for college," I said happily and grateful to have always been a good student, even when I was mocked for being a bookworm.

"Must be nice," he said.

"Well, I put a lot of work into it, so yes, it is nice," I replied, not liking that quick little tone. Everyone thought because you had something good that it fell into your lap. I worked for this, and I was proud of it. Chase seemed to be getting a little jealous, so I felt the need to change the subject.

"Anyway, shall we continue studying this weekend?" I asked, leaving the rest open-ended. He nodded.
