Chapter 39: Do You Know What This Means?

*** Ariana's POV***

I looked down at my frosted flakes soaking in my cold milk. It had been three days since I was with Triton. I relived the sensations and the scene over and over in my mind. It was like, for those moments, we were immortal. I felt like we would always have that moment forever. But, I also knew that soon we must meet and break our bond.

I stirred my milk thoughtfully and did not notice my mother was watching me. I took a spoon full, and when my eyes came up, I saw her face gazing back at me curiously. She seemed to be asking me a question with her eyes, but I did not know what the question was just yet.

"I found a black raven's feather on the floor outside your bedroom a few days ago," she told me as if saying, "care to explain?" But, she did not ask that. She just examined her spoon as she stirred her coffee as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world. I sighed. She would not let that drop.
