Chapter 40: Come Cry on My Shoulder

*** Ariana's POV***

It was Tuesday morning. I was brushing my hair, which seemed to be getting thinner than it was before. I found a lot of pulled hairs in the bristles of my brush and realized that this was a sign of the sickness again. I wanted to look beautiful again when I went to school, but instead, I felt like someone who survived a work camp.

I did not even want to wear makeup because I was afraid the eyeliner and mascara would make me look like a zombie or something. I opened my purse. I saw the black feather was there and smiled.

After our flight the other day, I had not spoken to my mother. But, she had left the black feather on my bedspread when I got back from my walk. I thought of it as sort of a peace offering. Once I spoke with Triton, I would rekindle my relationship with my mom. But, right now, I needed to fix the problem with Triton. Before, I was completely bald and resembled my grandmother.
