"Please, don't go," I whispered as I started kissing her neck once again.

She caressed my head but started saying the reasons why she knew it was wrong.

"We can't do this, Triton," she told me. "It is killing us, and it is destroying our families. Imagine how the pack would react if they were to discover us here? If they discovered that you were in the woods with me, kissing and caressing? As much as I love you and as much as we are mates, we are also enemies, Triton."

"No!" I said, my face still buried in her neck. "I don't care what they think! I don't care what will happen! All I want is you."

I watched his back as he walked across the field. He had a straight back that was so strong in appearance. It matched his determined nature. I admired him for as long as I could, and he faded to the darkness of the night. I saw that the moon was not present in the skies above. But, I could see the planets Venus and Jupiter. 


I let out a deep sigh as I saw their light flash in the sky. I remembered the stories my mother told me as a child. That the goddess Venus could subdue even Mars, the god of war. The powers of love subdued war. And Jupiter embodies the subjection of chaos to order. I loved their stories, and their stories gave me a lot of hope. 


Maybe we have some hope in accomplishing our goal of peace. 


I started to make my way back home. My dad was probably home now. I needed to look normal and act as normal as possible. I started to check my body and my eyes to make sure I did not notice anything that would hint to my father that something was up.
