CHAPTER 15: THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT

Bares City

A young woman was busy looking out the window with her arms crossed, her mind obviously under turmoil as she was busy thinking about life. Every single year when it was around this time, she will always go in a trance.

All the sad and bad memories will crop up whenever this time comes. Every time she wonders whether things would have been different if she had not done what she did back then.

She just didn’t know and the answer to that question was something she could no longer receive as people involved back then were all gone. Pearl wondered if those two were resting in peace peacefully or karma followed them and they were living horribly to pay for their deadly sins.

She hated them so much and at the same time, she kind of felt pity for them. But in the end, it didn’t matter whether they were pitiful or not, she had to win if she wanted to survive in this world.

So, it was either them or her and she chose herself in the end. And that is how it came to this and even after so many years, she wasn’t at peace. She always felt that some ghosts and skeletons will crawl out of the closet and she didn’t like the sound of that.

As Pearl was in her head, a tall and handsome man walked into the room and frowned upon seeing this. He loves his wife so much and he could do anything for her.

He had loved her for two lifetimes and he was not going to allow anyone to take her away from him. Robert Keen is a thirty-five-year-old man who was very successful in his endeavors and everything was contributed to his hard work.

Robert was someone who went through a miraculous process of rebirth. In his previous life, he was a nobody, his relatives were rich and had money but he was just a hooligan who struggled to live.

His life changed when he saw Pearl, the young miss from the Day family who had been under shadowed by her half-sibling, Cleo. Robert fell in love with Pearl and wanted to be with her but his status didn’t allow him.

At that time Pearl was already married to a crippled man who abused her daily. He wanted to help her out of that predicament but the people he was up against were too strong and more powerful than him.

After following Pearl and her family for years, he got to learn a lot of ridiculous news and the most shocking was how the stepmother was involved in the death of Pearl’s mom.

But that was only the icing as Cleo the half-sister of Pearl was also not a Day’s child. These two pieces of news were enough to save Pearl and give her a new and better life.

And in his previous life, Robert died while trying to do exactly that but too bad he didn’t see what happened back then. At least he was given a second chance to rectify everything and have a chance to be with the woman he loves.

So, Robert who woke up at the age of nineteen used this great chance to change his life and earned a lot of money. He wanted to match up to Pearl and secretly he wormed his way into her heart, directed her to the evidence that eventually helped her to kick out that vile step-mom and half-sister who was a fake.

Secretly he maneuvered the issue and made sure that those two will never bother them ever again but who knew that even with the dead, Pearl was still worried.

Robert hated Hope and Cleo so much, he wished he could dig out their bones and give them a harsh lesson. He didn’t want the dead to keep on interfering in the life he worked so hard to gain.

He walked towards her and embraced her in a hug from behind. Pearl smiled after feeling that familiar warmth, arms of the man who had shown her the light when she was surrounded by darkness.

There were so many times she wanted to give up but her brother was there and she didn’t want to see that Hope woman succeeding and giving their parents’ work to those vixens.

“You should stop thinking about those people, they are not worth it,” he whispered against her ear as he rocked her body smoothly.

Pearl smiled and placed her small and cold hand on top of Robert’s, “I just keep on having a bad feeling that something bad will happen and I don’t want like that feeling.”

Robert kissed the nape of her neck and said, “if something ever crops up in the future, I will always be there for you and fight whoever comes for you. So darling just is at ease and preparing for the big day.”

Pearl didn’t want to face her husband at the moment as she was afraid that she will cry, “I will get myself back together. I don’t want to mess up anything and let those people eyeing us find something to use against us in the future.”

Robert was happy to hear that and the couple hugged each other sweetly and warmly as they watched the beautiful night sky if you ignore how foggy the sky looked at the moment.

In another room in a different location in Bares City, a man in his sixties was in his study smoking. The study room was cold and didn’t have the warm ambiance it used to have.

Ian Day was a man who had made a lot of mistakes in life and those mistakes haunted him every day. In his entire life, he married two wives and cheated multiple times but he was a man who loved his wives a lot.

The death of his first wife caught him by surprise and it was one of the lowest points in his life. He mourned for her for two years before marrying his second wife who happened to be his girlfriend before.

The two had dated, broke up, their relationship was just complicated but when he heard that Hope had his daughter, he married her in the end, after all, Hope had never let him down but loved him from way before.

And this was how he unknowingly brought trouble into his family. If he had known that things weren’t that simple and that he had been fooled, he should have shot Hope to death before he allowed her to enter his house.

And what Ian didn’t know was that his life was about to be turned upside down

once more and this time, his side will be the one suffering and not the other side.
