HIGH SCHOOLERS

As we walked our way to school on the first day of High School I could see Chris was a bit nervous. I still found it remarkable that after those first few months of almost having to drag the words out of him now he was comfortable enough to show his emotions and share his thoughts with me. (Well, maybe it was not everything, but we did talk about a lot of stuff.)

"Penny for your thoughts?" I said after giving him some time to mull over his thoughts.

"Huh?" he turned to me like he was coming back to reality.

"You seem really out of it today. Are you nervous?"

"Yeah, I guess..." He shrugged. For a couple of minutes, all we could hear was the sound of our steps but I let him take his time.

We had developed a sort of deeper understanding of each other this last few months. Maybe going to the psychiatrist helped with this too (we went altogether for a few sessions to help us figure out how to help each other better.)
