Chapter 31: There’s No Relationship Between Us

The Cheetah soon landed near the enormous mansion. Emerald also felt relieved when she saw the soft lawn.

Harvey opened the gate and walked out of the cabin first. Two military police stood by the gate and said with respect, "My Lord, the mayor is here."

Kenzo seemed calm as he walked out, holding Emerald.

There stood Wade Sterling on the metal path beside the lawn. He was surprised to see them stepping out of the plane and walked quickly to them. "Director Lane, I heard that you went out when I visited... Miss Wilson?"

Kenzo glanced at Emerald, "Yes, and she's fine."

Wade didn't believe him completely, and the doctor from behind him walked up. "Director Lane, we have to check her before we can be sure."

Kenzo nodded and let Emerald go. Two guards walked to her, put her in handcuffs, then pushed her to the side.

Wade walked to her after he said something to Kenzo. "Don't be afraid." He said, "I'll release you once the test is done."

Emerald nodded.

"However..." Wade turned around to look at Kenzo, not far away from him, and said, "Shouldn't you clarify your identity, Director Lane?"

After Wade finished his words, countless guards with weapons emerged from every corner of the garden and quickly surrounded Kenzo, Harvey, and the military police.

Something poked Emerald on the back. It was the gun. "Don't move."

The guard commanded Emerald, then looked at Kenzo, who was still very calm as if the dozens of guns didn't exist at all.

Wade stood behind the guards with his hands crossed at his back and said, sullenly. "Kenzo Lane, 32 years old, a top student of National University, was polite, reserved and always behaved himself.... when I first read this commission evaluation, I was suspicious at first. This is not you. But Kenzo Lane's fingerprint in the confidential database of the alliance was the same as yours, and the mayor of Freedom City had confirmed this was you, so I believed him. However, the mayor of Freedom City is arrested now."

Emerald was shocked. Did Wade mean that he was not the real Kenzo Lane? Then who was he? Who can be so bold and so shrewd to pretend to be an important official of the alliance?

Kenzo, however, did not panic. Even Harvey, who was beside him, was silent and calm.

"Who are you?" Wade shouted at him.

Kenzo smiled faintly and said in a low but clear voice. "Don't you already know?"

Wade's face darkened. "So you really are..." Wade glanced at Emerald coldly, then looked at Kenzo Lane. "You hijacked Kenzo Lane's interstellar train and locked him in a remote space station. How long were you planning to play Kenzo Lane if the air force hadn't found him when they were looking for Zach Williams?" Wade stared at him as he pressed every word. "Commander Patrick Lewis?"

****

Emerald was completely astonished. Patrick Lewis?!

Commander?

When Emerald woke up in this world, she had heard about Mercenary and this name, which she had always taken as a legend from far, far away.

He was the commander of Mercenary, who didn't have a good reputation in the alliance. It was said that his mercenaries were all vicious criminals.

No one knew exactly how many people he had taken in. It was also said that his mercenaries were distributed into many galaxies, and he was living in this galaxy. There were not only humans but also Zergs and monsters from other galaxies in his army. He was never loyal to human beings, but only to benefits.

Emerald couldn't relate Patrick Lewis to the director in front of her.

But this must be the answer because only Patrick Lewis would say, "It doesn't matter to me whether you are loyal to human beings," and only Patrick Lewis would turn the military police who had always followed the rules into a team without laws or morals.

"Since you already know who I am," he looked at Wade Sterling calmly and arrogantly, "do you want to arrest me?"

Wade replied in all seriousness, "Whoever commits crimes under my control will be arrested."

The guards rushed towards them, but he didn't resist and let them handcuff him.

Emerald stared at them in astonishment. Patrick seemed to notice her, so he glanced at her, not showing what he really was thinking.

She felt that a hammer bashed her because this was too unbelievable.

Did he want to train her as a mercenary?

No wonder he had picked her up. Was it because she had been reckless in front of him again and again?

After the guards pushed them into a car, Wade was finally a little relieved.

He turned around to look at Emerald with mixed emotions, "Miss Wilson, we should have a talk."

Emerald, who was not a prisoner, somehow didn't feel scared when she looked at Wade Sterling in front of her.

She was sitting in the office of the mayor, and Wade had given her a cup of hot water, "You can drink it."

She nodded.

"You are totally clean," He stared at her with his dark eyes, "why?"

Emerald took a sip of water, which showed that she was still nervous, "He injected some kind of medicine in me, and then the pain disappeared."

Wade was shocked.

The flight records in the Cheetah they piloted had already been erased by Harvey when they landed. The radar had only monitored that they had flown back from the outside of the galaxy, but no one knew where they had been.

Emerald looked very natural. Her expression convinced Wade that it was not weird that they had such a magical medicine to resist the parasitism of larvae since the mercenaries have been to many galaxies and seen a lot of things.

But such a kind of medicine was even more valuable than Patrick Lewis. He had to get it no matter what for the benefit of the alliance.

Thinking about this, Wade asked in all seriousness. "Emerald, what is the relationship between you and Patrick Lewis?"

Emerald's face turned sour because of this question.

"There is no relationship between us." She said coldly, "I'm just one of his toys."

Wade was always a gentleman, so he stopped asking when she answered, but he was still confused. "Then why did you refuse me when I offered to help you?"
