It had only been minutes since Tyla had been married to William Fitzgerald during the Moon Pairing ceremony, but the male had already abandoned her and left her alone backstage. Standing barefooted among the other newly paired couples, she cursed her new groom and her father for putting her in the situation, to begin with.
Tymarie was supposed to be the one getting united in the Moon Pairing. She was the one that had gone happily to every pre-Moon Pairing class and spent the last few years preparing to be the perfect Moon Bride. Tyla wasn't meant to take her place. Switching spots with her hardly seemed like the Moon's fate, it felt like her father's scheming and betrayal.
The freshly Moon paired couples around her all grabbed a glass of champagne from the table backstage. They toasted to propriety and love, with hopeful grins and curious eyes, but William was nowhere to be found and Tyla was feeling even more foolish than she had up on the stage during the ceremony. If William could bail on the event, and their marriage, so could she.
With nothing worth celebrating, Tyla decided to sneak out of the grand packhouse before anyone noticed. Music began to fill the halls and dinner was being served to the guest, so she figured that now would be a good tie to escape. She wasn't sure if her father's Beta was still watching over her, so she crept to the back of the packhouse.
To her relief, no one caught her, including Beta Greg. Her father must've called him off now that the pairing was had been made. Being as careful as possible, she made her way around the packhouse to the front of the building where the valets were waiting.
"I need my car keys, please." She told one valet worker.
"Sure. Your ticket, mam." The male held his hand out to her.
'I'm sorry, I lost my ticket." Explained Tyla, which was the truth since her shoes and purse were a lost cause back at her parent's table. "I remember the ticket had a 88 on it."
"Yeah, I can't go by that. I need the ticket." He crossed his arms at stood tall like he was suddenly a bouncer keeping out the rift raft.
"It's a little red Honda sports car. License plate JXE something. My jean jacket is in the front seat, and tons of empty water bottles are on the floor. Ticket number 88." She said. "Come on, can you just please let it slide this one time."
Tyla looked back at the door, fearing someone would come bursting out and catch her leaving any moment.
"Sorry, mam." The valet sternly said. "As I told you, no ticket, no car. It's policy."
She was about to plead once more, but another valet interrupted.
"Mikey, don't you know who this is?" The other valet asked. "This is Alpha Tyler's daughter. I highly doubt she's trying to steal a car. Now, give her the keys before she gets pissed off and tells her dad."
The original valet now looked more like a scolded child than a touch bouncer. His face went pale, and he began stumbling over his words.
"I'm…I'm sorry, mam. I didn't mean...I apologize if I offended you." He grabbed her keys. "I'll go grab your car right away."
"No." She snatched her keys out of his hand, not wanting to risk the chance of waiting any longer in front of the building for anyone to see. "I can get my car myself."
"I apologize again." He called out to her as she began heading to the parking lot. "Please, don't tell your father."
"I won't tell if you don't tell," Tyla called back.
She hurried her way to the parking lot, but it wasn't as easy as she thought it would be to find her car. There were a lot of attendees for the event, which meant tons of vehicles in rows and rows of parking spots. Finally, she spotted her car u ahead and rushed to get to it. As soon as the car door was closed and locked with her inside, she sighed a breath of relief. Not wasting any more time, Tyla took off in the car and sped away from the packhouse.
It wasn't until she got a few miles down the road that she realized; she didn't know where to go. She didn't have any money or belongings with her. The gas tank was barely half-filled. Her phone and bank cards were in her purse back at the table with her parents. Hell, she didn't even have any shoes on.
Not knowing what other choice she had, she headed back to her house. There was a stash of money in her closet she could grab that would help her survive out there on her own for a while. She could pack some clothes and load up on food and drinks too.
As she arrived at her house, she didn't bother pulling her car to the garage area. Instead, she parked right in front. In a hurry, she didn't even close the car door as she hopped out and ran to the house.
"Is everything okay, mam?" The butler asked.
"Yes, Frank." She smiled at him as she hurried past. "Everything is fine. I'm just late for somewhere I have to be."
"Is there anything I can do to help, Ms. Tyla?" He asked sweetly. The man was so kind and had interacted with her over the years more than her own parents had. Her stomach sank as she realized how much she'd miss him after leaving this place.
"Frank, go sit and relax. It's your night off. Mom and Dad are out. Go enjoy yourself." She smiled at him and he grinned back at her.
"As you wish, mam." He nodded and walked away, but she was certain he'd go find chores somewhere in the house, he never seemed to allow himself rest.
Tyla barged into her room and grabbed her suitcase. She began throwing random clothes and shoes into it until it could barely zip. She then grabbed a duffle bag and threw more clothes in it. After retrieving her stash of money, she put it in a pocket inside her bag.
There was a picture of her and Tymarie on her nightstand. She snatched that and threw it into her bag as well. Tymarie may be a bitch at times, but she still cared about her sister and worried what happened to cause the girl to not make it to her own pairing. That question would have to wait for another time, Tyla was too busy with her own disappearance to try to solve her sister's at the moment.
The clock was ticking as she grabbed her bags and quickly made her way out of the bedroom, down the stairs, and out to her running car. She popped open the truck and was putting the bags into it when suddenly a hand went over her mouth, and someone snatched her from behind.
Tyla tried to scream, hoping one of the staff inside might hear and come to her aid, she the hand over her mouth was pressed so tightly down onto her lips that she could barely breathe, let alone yell. She tried to kick and punch, but the hold was too strong around her body. Within seconds, she was thrown into the back of a van, and clothe was pushed over her nose. A few breaths later, she went unconscious, not knowing who had taken her or what they had planned to do to her.
