Chapter 102

Yelena sat before the dresser and watched as Macedius’ servants finished dressing the king for dinner whilst his attention was focused on the report from his chief of staff who was determinedly trying not to notice that Yelena and her maids were in the king’s chambers and not their own, unsure of what her presence meant.

It was not an accident. Macedius had ordered her and her maids to his chambers when he had returned to them, and had shared his bath with Yelena, much to Eustice’s consternation when she and Nareena had been shown to an antechamber to await.

Eustice’s eyes had not missed the tangle of bed clothes when she and Nareena had been admitted to dress Yelena in the gown that Macedius had prepared, nor had she missed the obvious lingering signs of sex on Yelena’s skin. Her mouth had compressed to a thin disapproving line, and the exchange of looks between the maids had been many.
