Chapter 21 : Doubt and Discourse

Rhett's POV

"Hayden!" I called out to my brother as I made my way across the field. There was a small group of fighter wolves that had gathered around him and wolves I did not recognize. Their scent and aura were all off and I knew immediately that they weren't from our pack.

I moved to stand next to my brother, both in the event that I may need to hold him back or shield him from an attack, and then I addressed the foreign wolves.

"You're not on your land," I told them simply, waiting for a response from one of them. I watched as their gazes flickered between Hayden and I as they clearly assessed the two of us and came to understand who it was they were talking to.

"Our apologies, alphas." The one in the middle said, "We weren't aware of your ranking when we had spoken out of turn. The fault is ours." That one bent his head a bit in the direction of Hayden, who only lifted his nose at the wolf.
