Chapter 227: I Remember This Magic

Eleonore’s POV

I could still taste the fight on my tongue, the vibrations echoing there as my mind tried to reel in everything that had happened just now.

The mages ran away after Rhett and Hayden’s presence became an all too apparent threat. But that didn’t mean that they had taken their problems and damage with them. The area around us was still alight with smokeless fire, its expanse reaching across the entirety of the space now in front of me.

There was something simmering between the spaces of ashes and roses that I could recognise, a lingering of fear and war and something that didn’t belong so close to a place I had called home. Every instance of the demon attacks had tainted this place with a dark mark hard to wash out, and now the mages had razed the spaces in the garden, too.

Spaces where their fire hadn’t burnt through the bushes and trees and flowers there was nothing left of anything, and I felt something constrict in my heart at the sight of it.
