Chapter 48: Into the Light

“Yes.”

Brooke wasn’t sure if it was a whisper or a shout as it was hard to hear her voice over the rushing sound of her pulse in her ears. It was as unexpected as almost everything in their relationship so far had been. When he lifted her into an embrace and spun her around, she hugged him tightly, clinging on as if she never intended to let go.

So many fears had raced through her head from the moment she was made aware of her pregnancy. She hadn’t realized being alone had been one of them until the moment he’d proven to have done what she asked. He’d bought a ring and asked her again. He set her on the ground and placed the ring on her finger. It was a perfect fit. She turned to see her aunt holding up her phone and taking pictures of the two of them. She worked to quickly wipe away all of her tears and smiled for the camera as she showed off her ring.
