Chapter 36: Taken

Kinley

The disappointment on Kinley's face took over. Her father squeezed her hand.

"My baby girl. As much as I want to start this new adventure with you, you know very well that I can't leave your mother. Who would visit? Who would read her favorite books to her?"

"Dad--"

"--No. I can't go. I will visit though. I promise. I still want to meet your fella and I can't wait to meet my grandbaby. My cab is pulling up. Keep me posted on the move. I love you. I hope you know that," said her dad.

"I do."

She stood on her tip toes and planted a loving kiss on her father's cheek. She watched him slip into the cab and drive away. She felt empty inside knowing the truth and knowing that he didn't. Would that change his mind, or keep him away permanently? She was scared to find out.
