The prospect of being killed yet again so soon after already being killed so many times did not sound appealing to me at all.

But our conversation came to a stop by the time we reached Ivan’s room because he had an unexpected visitor.

“What are you doing here, Gulakova?”

“I’m taking Nevena with me, Jovanović,” said Katarina. “Come on, shift it.”

“I’m not coming with you,” I said. This girl was really starting to get on my nerves. “I’m going to stay with Ivan. The Krov Svez, remember?”

Katarina scoffed, and rolled her eyes, crossing her hands in front of her chest. “You don’t even know what that means, human.”

“I know Ivan has to drink all of my blood or turn me into a vampire myself in three days,” I said proudly. That seemed to take Katarina off for a second, but afterwards she just squinted her eyes suspiciously.

“Right,” she said. “But you still can’t stay in Ivan’s room.”

“And why is that, Gulakova?”
