Do the Right Thing

After Hikaru left, I tried to get Uncle to follow me into the kitchen. Maybe some tea would calm him down. I offered gently, “I just got some new tea if you want-” but he cut my words short.

“Is that what you do with the money you get from those stupid jobs? Buy fancy tea you don’t need just so you can show off to your friends? If you were working less, you’d have more time to study.” Regardless of his words, he made his way toward the kitchen.

“I have to work, Uncle, you know that. The scholarships didn’t cover everything, I still have to buy my own books and food-” he cut me off again as we made our way into the kitchen.

“If you would have paid more attention before, you would have gotten better scholarships. You always were lazy. Just like your mother.” He started opening cabinets frantically.
