Where Are We Going?

Hikaru’s growl grew deeper and their breathing grew heavy. They shot a look at me, demanding “Is it true?” in a primal, terrifying tone.

I hugged my injured wrist a little tighter and gave them a subtle nod. Juno advanced toward the couch with her hand up, “Yeah, that’s right, your little friend hurt Gabby. And then you have the audacity to show your face around here.”

Hikaru made a snarling noise at Juno, shooting up to a towering protective stance. I saw their eyes start to turn red. Their nails and teeth extended, and I knew they had lost their temper. They were shifting, similar to the night we’d met but scarier. They looked like they could rip someone apart, and I wanted to make sure that person wasn’t Juno.

My best friend was stunned, watching Hikaru’s features change right in front of her. I stood up and placed a gentle hand on their chest, staring up with a desperate expression. “Babe, please. Calm down. She is only trying to help. I didn’t want you to get upset.”
