On Your Knees

We woke up around midday and finished the stew that was still warm from the dying fire. After cleaning up, Hikaru started gathering their things into the truck. I went back to the bedroom to grab my clothes. I stared at the bag of clothes for a moment before deciding to stuff the gun and bullets deep in the bag. We had no idea what we were walking home to, and I wanted to make sure I was as prepared as I could be.

The drive back seemed to take well longer than the drive up. I called Juno again on the satellite phone, with no response. Once we were back in a service area, I checked my cell phone but didn’t have any messages from her. I checked her social media where she posted religiously, but there was no activity on any platform.
