The Predator

After watching Hikaru shift and run off into the night, I was struck with a wave of panic. What was I supposed to do if they didn’t return? I had no idea where we even were, just that we were miles from anything. I had never driven a stick shift before, so driving myself home wasn’t an option. I could call someone on the satellite phone, but I wouldn’t even begin to describe where I was.

I wandered back toward the fire and stirred the stew with the ladle. I drank my tea, staring at the second cup and trying to come up with a plan. At least there was enough food and water to last a while. School was out for break, so I didn’t have to worry about missing class for a while.

I wandered through the house, snooping through closets and drawers out of curiosity and boredom. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep, so I figured it would pass the time. The clothes in the bedroom were high quality and well maintained. I pulled out something warm in almost my size and sat it on the bed for later.
