Future Plans

“That’s true but do you think those people will have the Lories unchecked?” Old Kibali said looking at me.

“So, what do you say Old Kibali?” I directly asked him. With his years of experience, he may come up with solutions that may take us years to have

“I suggest we go with your plan but let it be a second plan. Let’s load food on the Lories, then leave some here and others find a safe place to hind. In case we encounter an attack in the future, there may be other two places where we can have food.” His suggestion was great. Having food on Lories was an overall plan but having also a different place with food in case of unforeseen accidents or events was an excellent plan

“So, where do you suggest we hid another batch of food?” James frowned asking. He gave out a huge sigh. I didn’t know whether is him resigning to fate or feeling dejected.

“We need to have rounds around the area and look for unlikely place where anyone would think there is food there” Old Kibali said seriously

“Why risk the movement and we could just stay here and reinforce the area to the maximum” James finally said

“It’s for our safety that we will be doing so or else, more powerful people may take over this place.”

There were medicine cabinet in the residence. Treating Peter was not had but he looked dejected, he could not do much with his one arm. The good thing was his right arm was intact. It would take a while for him to live normally as long as he accepted his state. The issue was acceptance.

Even in his state, he was as jovial as ever. His jokes could make us forget we were living under constant fear.

I took turn with peter and sometimes Old Kibali watching from the tower. From there we could see the different area around us. Though it was not a huge tower but it best. In the next few weeks we could see the number of undead around the fence increasing in number. It seemed more and more people were moving away from town. It was not safe to go back to town but I was hoping my husband would come looked for us. There were people that left the warehouse, I was wishing they give my husband the news of seeing Javi in this place and he would come.

Having stayed for three months in the warehouse, things were running smoothly. Peter was getting better his out layer was healing up quickly thanks to Old Kibali and available antibiotics and pain killers.

According to Old Kibali plan, we found a place in the mountain where there were no people but animals and even undead had not reached the area. He hid some of the food there set everything ready in case of anything. Some of the food was loaded in the Lories ready for a drive out in case we also encounter problems

One day, there were signs of people roaming around where we were. We didn’t know whether they were friends or foes. Dan and Javi were playing chess game in the living room. They were getting used to the current situation. Dan had accepted his mother’s death. I promised him to take him to his father when we get a chance. But I had to psychologically prepare him that it may not be possible.

Peter rushed in in the evening saying the people outside were clearing the undead outside. They were more than 30. We didn’t know whether it was a good sign or not. But we had to be prepared

I went back inside the warehouse. James and old Kibali were counting the number of sacks we had remaining in the warehouse.

“We have around 50 bags of everything here. It will last us a year or so if we eat in discipline.” James said counting what we had remain in the store

“Hey guys, we may have a problem.” I rushed in and informed them. They looked alarmed.

“Get the kids in the truck parked behind the warehouse. Have peter and you stay ready. Stay on the staring will just in case.” Old Kibali said to me

“You join them. And take care” He then turned to Mrs. Kibali that just joined them from the other room. She had the commotion and got out to see

She did not waste a moment and grabbed the guns on the wall ready for war. She always amaze. She threw a short gun at me and gave a small pistol to Peter. I rushed to the living room, picked Dan and Javi and hurried them to the Truck. They already know the plan. I opened the Truck covering and had them hop inside. Peter joined them as well armed. I saw Javi holding a rod. I don’t know where he picked it from but I was happy he was thinking of his safety. Over the months, I had seen his growth. The growth was good but was not healthy for a young boy who was supposed to enjoy his childhood

We could hear shouts and screaming from the people that were attacking the fence but we didn’t see clearly what was happening. I was hoping everything would be alright. I opened the driver’s seat and sat on it igniting the truck. Mrs. Kibali opened the co-driver door and sat down as well. We was tensed and I could tell why. Her husband was out there facing who knows who

“Don’t worry. He will be alright. He is wise and strong, he can handle them.” I tried to comfort her. She just nodded. I had known her to be a tough woman and quiet at the same time. She was nice to friends and rough to enemies. This have seen the way she handled the infected.
