CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: SAVE ME

SAVE ME

I lay warm on the cold floor. I lay there as I feel the cool breeze on my face. My eyes stay shut. There's dead silence. My aunties leave me. They walk out through the door like I was not their concern. Dad hesitates before he walks out the brown wooden door.

The cold air comes to stay with me. I have no means of breathing it in. I just lay there slowly loosing my body heat.

Dad stays at the entrance for a while, watching as my aunties get into their cars. Nellie blows air kisses to my father's rather cold face. Then he feigns a smile. She leaves. They all leave.

Dad comes to where I lay, takes a pause as he kneels before me. He sinks his head as he slowly weeps. He holds me in his arm and lifts me. He turns around to take me to a place, only to be blessed with Nellie's appearance.

'I thought you...' He manages to say with composure.

'Why would I?'

'I'm thinking of burying her in a sunny place. She didn't really like cold areas.'
