Alanna dreamed of Faolán and they meeting again, but then, a dark cloud came between them. This was the first time she had dreamed in 600 years. At first, she was confused, thinking things were really happening, until her alarm clock went off, bringing her back to reality.

She sat up in bed, sweating. Alanna's throat was dry. She got up and went to the bathroom. After splashing water on her face, she looked at herself in the mirror. Her dark circles were deeper. She shook her head disapprovingly and stripped off her clothes to shower. She needed to get ready for work. In fact, she didn't even know how she was going to work without looking like an idiot.
