Changes

Using the time allotted to him by sleeping Felicia, this is now a perfect chance to call on reinforcement.

Thomas looked at his status to see how many souls he had got from clearing the main building of the Kikyo High School.

[Souls: 1,181]

[Apocalypse Dollars: 325,800]

He nodded at satisfaction, this is more than enough.

In Kikyo High School, there are six buildings, four of which haven't been cleared and the last remaining in the school dorm. He calculated the amount of personnel needed to achieve total extermination of the zombies in the vicinity of the campus, rehabilitate the facilities, clean-ups, and decontamination. About 450 agents would constitute a minimum effective deployment.

Thomas summoned 150 troops and 300 workers with different specialties.

Instead of telling them the mission one by one, Thomas used one of the features of the Summon Forces tab where he can type in his order. So the moment they materialized in this world, they'll immediately start working.

Now that aside, Thomas head to the Shop Tab, nested on this tab is a tab name "Facility" where can buy buildings with a specific function that can help him.

But there is a problem, he can't buy anything yet as it requires a prerequisite. He has to finish his quest "Build a base for your Stronghold."

In that case, there's not much work he can do at this point other than killing all the zombies inside the campus.

Still, this is his perfect opportunity to utilize the power of the system and he can't waste it. If Felicia or the survivors were to see he has a mysterious power. That would be bad.

With that, Thomas added a new order to the 150 summoned troops. They kill all the zombies present on the campus and search for survivors and keep them to where they found them until dawn.

The summoned troops acknowledged the order and went on killing the zombies outside the main building.

Gunshots and zombies agonizing groans can be heard outside.

Since the buildings are not interconnected by bridge or a hall, the troops have to personally get to their respective buildings' entrances themselves.

While his troops are in their way of accomplishing their task, Thomas can monitor their progress by just looking at the numbers of his apocalypse dollars and souls steadily increasing.

The number of students that are attending Kikyo High School is no more than 3,500, assuming that all of the students and teachers are infected.

The only way for him to find that out is through the soul count. Currently, they had killed 14% of the school's population.

The extermination went on for two hours, so far they found at least 312 students, 8 teachers, 25 school personnel and they had kept them where they are according to his orders.

Another two hours has passed, Thomas's summoned forces killed more than 2,350 zombies, effectively clearing the school of zombies.

Now it was Thomas's turn, he cracked his knuckles and neck, it'll be a lot of work.

With another surge of souls and Apocalypse dollars, Thomas got to work, summoning essential military hardware, equipment, and materials.

With a balance of over 470,000 apocalypse dollars, he was able to afford the needed material and had him order the summoned workers to help him distribute, install, operate the newly bought items from the Shop Tab.

It went on for another three hours.

The time now was seven o'clock in the morning, Felicia hadn't woken up yet, which relieves him.

Then for another one hour, his work was complete.

...

Felicia woke up in her bed, stretching her hands. It felt so good to finally get a good night's sleep. She yawned and let out a deep breath, feeling more relaxed than she had in three days.

She looked around and realized the room wasn't the same as before. It was the same room but it was cleaner, the trash was gone and the room was tidy. It even had a new smell. The air was fresher and the ambient temperature was higher, or maybe it's just Felicia's imagination.

"Hmm, where's that smell coming from?" she said to herself.

It smells like iron, the smell of wet soil, and the rainy days. The smell was the strongest, yet comforting.

"Good morning ma'am."

Felicia looked to the source of the voice, it was the soldier tasked with guarding her.

"Morning, what's going on?" she said while rubbing her eyes. "How long have I slept?"

"It's 8:30 am, you slept for more than nine hours ma'am." The soldier answered as he handed something to her.

It was a student uniform wrapped in plastic. Then the soldier pointed at the table next to her bed, located there was a hygiene kit and a bento box.

"Eat your breakfast while it's still hot." The soldier said to her.

Felicia graciously thanked him and took the items. The soldier nodded at her and head back to the location where he was posted.

Felicia sees the bento box and said to herself, "Who made this?"

But then again, who cares, she's just happy that she got something to eat. She's so hungry! She opened the bento box and saw that there was a lot of food inside, it had rice, soup, bacon, fried fish, and even a Japanese pickled radish!

Felicia is so happy, for the past three days, she has been surviving on canned goods and soda. She's so glad that everything ended up well.

After eating her breakfast, the soldier walked over to her and escorted her to the bathroom.

In the hallway, personnel in a hazmat suit can be seen operating a thermal fogger machine. So that's where the strong smell came from.

The hall looks pristine, the last time she saw it, it was covered with the nastiest thing she had ever seen. Blood, putrid rotten smell of entrails, and dead bodies.

Just imagining it almost made her puke but she managed to control herself.

In the bathroom, there was a new smell, it was faintly sweet. The smell of cleaning detergent.

Felicia looked everywhere inside the bathroom, it was so neat and clean.

The last time she saw this bathroom was when she was running for her life as it was occupied by zombies, covering it with their blood and entrails.

"Who cleaned this?" she asked again.

"We did, ma'am." The soldier answered. "We were tasked with cleaning the bathrooms and halls."

"Thank you very much." She said.

The soldier nodded at her and left the bathroom.

Felicia went to the shower and had a nice long warm shower, feeling the warmth of the water and its liberating effect. Feeling the warm water rushing down her back, Felicia felt that she was no longer in danger.

She was safe.

"I'm safe," she said to herself.

Once she was done with the shower, she cleaned herself using the new hygiene kit and after that, she exited like she was ready to go to class.

The two soldiers that were escorting can't help but fall to her charm. She was beautiful, with her silver long hair that was now clean glistening under the light of the morning sun. Her beautiful blue eyes and her gorgeous face.

She was wearing the student uniform that she was given by the soldier. It was a red blazer, white blouse, a white pleated skirt, and long black stockings reaching her halfway to her knee.

"Ma'am are you ready?" the soldier said, snapping back to reality.

She noticed him staring and smiled. "Yes, where can I meet Thomas?"

"He's at the principal office, which served as his room. He's waiting for you."

She nodded, then the two soldiers escorted her to the principal's office.

...

Felicia arrived at the door and the soldiers escorted her inside the office.

Inside she can see a young man in a dark blue uniform sitting on a chair and reading a report on his tablet, with a cup of coffee in his right hand.

She approached him and cleared her throat as a sign that she was there.

But Thomas didn't look up, believing that it was just another officer handing him reports.

"Just leave it on my table...I'll look at it later," Thomas said without looking up.

"Thomas..."

He heard a familiar voice and finally looked up. He was shocked.

"Felicia, I didn't expect to see you so soon."

"I could say the same thing to you. You looked like a real commander now." She said with a smile. "You look good in a uniform."

He smiled at her compliment. "Thank you, you look more beautiful than the first time I saw you."

It was an awkward moment to be exchanging flirting comments with each other.

"So, how's your morning? Is it good?" Thomas said, attempting to change the topic.

Felicia smiled at him. "I just had a nice breakfast and took a bath, so it's great."

"I'm very glad to hear that. I already have prepared another room for you in the school dorm. You won't be sleeping in the clinic anymore.

"Hmm." Felicia hummed a reply.

"Well, I think it's time to give you some good news. There are survivors, five of them is our classmate. They are in their dorm room as we speak."

"Eh?! Who?"

"Miyasaki, Ishimoto, Saiki, Fujikawa, and Mami..." he paused, as he suddenly found himself under Felicia's embrace.

"I'm so happy to hear that! I'm so happy, I can't believe it, I always thought that I'm the only one who survived."

Felicia said as she was crying tears of joy.

Thomas felt a little awkward and embarrassed, a lady crying in his arms.

"Calm down Felicia! It's embarrassing to cry in your uniform, you're making a scene," he said as he gently patted her back.

She slowly eased her hold on Thomas. He took the opportunity to look at the people standing by in his office. The soldiers were looking at her with a mix of emotions, staring at him with envy and longing.

Felicia let go of him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." she said bashfully.

"Geez, it's okay. Just take it easy." Thomas said while laughing.

Felicia wanted to say something but she was interrupted by a soldier holding a radio at the door.

"Commander. The Recon Force Squad found something, they are waiting for you in the conference room."

"Hmmm...." Thomas said as he got up from his chair. "Okay, I'll go there."

He gestured Felicia to follow him but Felicia demanded a reason why.

"You said you want me to help find your family right? I have already sent a team on the ground."

"Tho-Thomas~kun."

"Would you like to come?" Thomas asked, looking at her with a face full of hope.

"Yes!" Felicia answered immediately.

The two of them went out of the office and headed to the conference room.
