Virtual Reality

--August's Pov--

I was in the engineering class listening to this lecture. I felt like I will fall asleep any second because of the class, it was soooo boring. I didn't understand a thing, what the fuck is a g888 giga board or a lighting cannon. I didn't want to attend this class in the first place but was dragged here by Ren.

I realised it today, that I was meant to be on a battlefield rather than in a class. I felt like jumping into teacher's feat and asking her to let me go.

Today we were going to have a virtual reality class and I was super excited for it. Who wouldn't be excited for it, on my previous earth it was every man's dream to experience virtual reality. And now I am getting this golden opportunity, I am never gonna miss it.

After the engineering class all the students started heading towards G section. The school was divided in 8 sections - A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. The G section was where the virtual reality room was located and we were currently in A section where students attend classes.

On the way I asked Ren about why is he attending this stupid engineering class. He said it was interesting, but I didn't understand why did he drag me along with him T^T.

After reaching the place where virtual reality rooms were located we were given skin tight suits to wear. After wearing it I quietly entered the virtual room. It was full of people who were walking like robots, but there was a twist if they were robots I was a fucking statue. I was too scared to move, what if I trip and fall. I'd rather stand at a place until my name is called out.

I went and layed in the capsule specified for me when my name was called out. Soon everything started to turn dark and with a zap sound, I was in a white room. There were 5 more students other than me in the room. I recognised someone instantly, seems like I was in the same team as Ren. My poor luck, why do I get dragged everywhere this trouble magnet is. When they saw me coming near them they approached me and greeted me.

"Rank 834 William K Johnson, a pleasure to meet you"

The first person to greet me was a browned hair short - statured teen with a somewhat lively temperament.

And there was Ren.

There was one more person except us, ' Rank 75 Arnold Kale '. He is one of the three lackeys of Jin who is 'strong to weak and weak to strong' your typical bully.

When I introduced myself they lost interest in me because of my rank. I guess it's better like this because I don't like attention and these white hairs of mine have given me enough attention.

After sometime a voice told us that we are team 7, and the stimulation will start soon and that we need to survive an hour in the virtual world. We had six point and would lose one point very time one of our teammate dies. The only way to get points was to complete hidden quests.

The voice was of none other than Alfonse Thibaut, who could be regarded as a mini-villian in the first arc of the novel. He wasn't a ranked villian and his major task was to turn heroes into villians by making them form contacts with demons.

The main reason for this competition was to cause grudges between students. Imagine if someone in top 100 rank lost to Kevin it will hurt his ego and he will try his best to take revenge on Kevin. This will make Alfonse Thibaut task of turning heroes into villians easy.

While I was lost in my thoughts a flash of light hit us and our surroundings started to change, the feeling of air on my skin, the soft soil, It felt like I was still in the real world. And to make matters worse I was seperated from all my teammates.

A blue screen was showing my team points. I saw an ocean in the distance, seems like I was in the west part, as it was mentioned it in the novel that west side had an ocean. Talk about perfect timing, an Ice user having an ocean beside him. Since I had nothing to do I started walking towards the ocean.

And look who I found 'Miss Bad temper', I mean Melissa. Seems like she has found a hidden task and is trying to complete it. I didn't want to fight her because I am only F- rank and had practiced my art for only 2 weeks. On the other hand Melissa has been training since years, even though she doesn't train a lot, training is still training. And the background behind her is scary, it's better to stay away from her.

While I was gonna change my direction and go somewhere else, I saw her being attacked by a monster. I guess helping her a little won't hurt. I made three ice spears and threw them at the big shark like looking monster. The spears created a perfect distraction and Melissa took advantage of it and killed it. After killing the monster she went near it and took out the ruby which was embedded on its forehead.

As soon as she took the ruby out, a notification popped stating that she had completed a quest. Talk about bad luck I did all the work, just for the quest to be completed by someone else. After that she glared at me and went in the opposite direction.

I just sat there thinking about what just happened. First I helped her when she was in trouble and then she took my quest and even shot a glare at me as if I was the one at fault all along. I pity the person who is gonna marry her in the future.

I had 40 minutes more to go and in the mean time 2 of my teammates died and Ren completed a quest as he did in the novel.

After what seemed like ages the competition was finally over.

After coming out of the capsule I saw our team's standing, it seems we have come sixth exactly like the novel. The only difference was that we had tied with the fifth team but our position was still sixth god knows why. First team was obviously of Kevin.

Ren came to me and asked how it went. I told him that I was scammed of my quest by Melissa which made him laugh and he said to me, " What are you expecting from that madhound. " and my reply to that was a blank face which clearly stated that what Ren said was fair enough.
